Over 45,000 consumers give their opinion at the German Bonus Awards

Germany’s consumers are hunters and gatherers when it comes to finding the right bonus. Almost three quarters of people in Germany use bonus programs. This puts them well above the European average.
The customer loyalty industry has been delighting its loyal participants for years. Now they have been honored for the second time at the German Bonus Awards.

Whether points, miles or cashback, around three quarters of all Germans actively use the offers. The German Bonus Awards give consumers, experts and media representatives a voice and honor the achievements of an industry that has inspired so many customers for years with its commitment, innovation and inspiration.

More than 45,000 consumers cast their votes in 5 different categories. An increase of 82% compared to the previous year, when the awards were presented for the first time. The program of the year was chosen in the categories Multipartner, Move, Hotel, Shopping/Lifestyle, Finance and Cashback. Prizes were also awarded for the Best Promotion for collecting, the Best Customer Service and the Best App in each case.

PAYBACK took a convincing lead in all four subcategories of the programs in the Shopping/Lifestyle category.
In the MOVE category, which included loyalty programs from airlines and Deutsche Bahn, BahnBonus was named program of the year. The awards for Best Promotion and Best App also went to BahnBonus. Miles & More was recognized for Best Customer Service.

Among hotels, Marriott Bonvoy won the loyalty ranking in Germany and was named Program of the Year. The award for the Best App also went to Marriott Bonvoy. Best Western Rewards took two excellent first places: Best Customer Service and Best Points Earning Promotion.

Shoop was named Cashback Program of the Year. Amex Offers from American Express was recognized for Best Customer Service and Best Promotion, while CashbackDeals took first place for Best App.

Payback American Express Credit Card was able to climb to first place in the Finance category no less than three times: Best Provider, Best Customer Service and Best App. Miles & More Gold took pole position in this category with the Best Promotion.

In addition to the customer awards, there were also two jury decisions. The Expert Award was judged by seven renowned loyalty experts. Here, BahnBonus was honored for the Innovation of the Year. Miles & More took second place ahead of Payback.

Renowned journalists who have been following the loyalty industry for years presented the Media Award. Here Flying Blue from Air France/KLM was recognized for the Best Innovation in the program, ahead of BahnBonus and Wyndham Rewards.

The German Bonus Awards were initiated by Ulf-Gunnar Switalski, who has been giving consumers tips on how to optimize the loyalty programs they use with his online magazine UpgradeGuru.de since 2015.

“Whether it’s points, miles or cashback, almost 60 million people in this country are now enthusiastic about the benefits offered by customer loyalty programs,” says Switalski. “Programs are regularly recognized for this at the German Bonus Awards.”
